It’s not the first time I happen to talk about this shit, but now that EU voted for it, 348 vs 274 I feel like coming back on the topic once more.
So article 13 passed, now what? Let’s just remember a few things:
1) it is ‘only’ a directive. It takes two years before it becomes law and every single government have to actively accept it. No country is forced to do it, so…
2) So when you have to elect your governments, remember to keep this factor in mind when you go to vote. Aaand in May we vote to elect the European Parliament, let’s have a bit of fun!
3) The copyright legislation, as it is written, is shady in many points, this could be both good and bad.
4) Parodies, caricatures and educational sites are not involved. This means that memes and wikipedia, for example, are safe.
5) Those infamous filters everybody is so worried about already exist. Youtube uses it, for a instance. Are they faulty? Yes, sometimes. Who sells them? Google! So this will be mostly a clash of giants, huge publishing groups and huge platforms. Smaller sites/groups will probably suffer. Common people shouldn’t be affected so much, nevetheless —> Go back to point two!!
